alsaplayer-gtk

alsaplayer is a PCM player designed specifically for use with ALSA. Also works great with OSS or EsounD. Plays mp3, mp2, ogg, cdda, audiofs, and lots more. alsaplayer-gtk is GTK based frontend of alsaplayer. alsaplayer-gtk depends on alsaplayer-common. alsaplayer-alsa is a module for alsaplayer that will output the sound through ALSA. alsaplayer-oss is a module for alsaplayer that will output the sound through OSS.

alsaplayer starts with default setting. alsaplayer --o ALSA starts with alsa as output, alsaplayer --o OSS starts with oss as output. alsaplayer also comes with visual scopes. Below are two screen shot of alsaplayer with scopes

xmms is also GTK+ based Winamp like player. It has lots of plugins and skins, scopes. lirc plugin is available for xmms to control it through a remote via LIRC. xmms-osd-plugin displays volume and track information like on screen display on TV.

Scopes or any visualization plugin should be disabled on machine having low power CPU ( like PI)

xfreecd is a simple GTK-based CD Player

workman can play and control audio CDs from a comfortable OpenLook interface

xmcd is a nice CD player and uses Motif toolkit.
